A system start, an attempt to access system files, and other events can trigger the activation of an antivirus program. To track these events, two categories of approaches are employed:
-Techniques for monitoring how programs behave as they run. An antivirus program detects when a program is about to execute a suspicious action and alerts the user, giving them the option of allowing it or not.
-Procedures for controlling file handling In this instance, we are especially referring to those files that are essential to the system. The antivirus application can alert the user or put the program in "quarantine" if it discovers a request to access such files.
But if scanning is necessary, there are two possibilities:
- A method of signature scanning. In its database, the anti-virus looks for a certain set of bytes that are typical of infections.
- The scanning-command approach. The antivirus looks for suspicious commands in the file.
