Along with the 4K and HDR-compatible movies available on the service, HBO's Game of Thrones TV show is now available to stream in its entirety in 4K and HDR on HBO Max. All eight seasons are available to stream in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, which is a pleasant way to pass the time before House of the Dragon's August 21st series launch.

The new formats are only available to HBO Max subscribers who choose the ad-free plan, which runs at $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. However, to watch House of the Dragon in 4K, you won't have to wait long. According to HBO, the Game of Thrones spinoff will debut in 4K with support for HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.

Game of Thrones was already available in 4K on Blu-ray, but HBO Max streaming allows you to avoid paying the full retail price of $150 or more for the complete box set. However, there are some benefits to watching it on Blu-ray. As FlatpanelsHD points out, you'll get a higher bitrate, which translates to better quality. Furthermore, you won't have to put up with a streaming app that is as glitchy as HBO Max's, but in any case, you can now start and stop viewing wherever you believe it would make sense.

Updated on August 1st at 9:50 a.m. ET: The 4K streams are now accessible on supported devices, according to an update.
