While signs (for now) point to continued declines over the coming weeks, gas prices across the U.S. are currently in a historic free fall after peaking at a record high of more than $5 a gallon on average less than a month ago. However, welcome relief has already arrived in these areas, where gas is now less than $4 a gallon once more.
According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of standard gasoline in the United States is $4.70, down more than 6% from the record high of about $5.02 that was announced on June 14.
According to AAA, gas costs around $4.21 per gallon in Georgia and South Carolina. However, many Georgia counties report gas prices that are significantly lower than the state average. According to AAA, there are 30 counties, mostly in the southern half of the state, where gas costs less than $4 per gallon on average.
According to AAA, six counties in Texas, two in South Carolina, two in Kentucky, and one in Mississippi all have gas prices under $4 per gallon.
