Investment behemoth KKR, which is listed in New York, has agreed to put up £867 million ($1 billion) for a minority stake in Northumbrian Water Group, which is owned by a number of other listed companies that are part of the CK Group, the conglomerate of businesses founded by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing.

Following the transaction, KKR will own 25% of the British water company, with CK Hutchison, CK Infrastructure, and CK Asset owning the remaining 75%.

Li's businesses had purchased Northumbrian Water, which provides sewage and water services to residents in the northeast and southeast England, for £2.4 billion in 2011.

According to a joint filing by the businesses, CK Hutchison will profit from the deal to the tune of HK $1 billion ($127 million), while CK Infrastructure and CK Asset would gain HK $900 million and HK $500 million, respectively. The deal is anticipated to be finalized later this year, subject to regulatory approval.
