Several Google Play apps have been removed |
According to the Wall Street Journal, the company's researchers discovered the software tools for covert data harvesting.
It was discovered that the applications were developed by a Panamanian business that contacted a US defence contractor that specialises in cyberintelligence for US national security services.
User data was secretly captured and then communicated to the contractor as a result of specific tools embedded in the code.
At the same time, it is unclear for what purpose the American authorities required the user data.
