The rumor's intention was to sway public opinion against the incumbent administration in an attempt to remove it in an undemocratic manner.
In an effort to undermine President Bola Tinubu, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has broken up its purported alliance with a few opposition parties
"SDP wants to make clear where it stands on the implication that it is part of a coalition that is forming to overthrow President Tinubu's administration." SDP clearly dissociates itself from such undemocratic and disloyal political strategies. The party admits to the existence of a significant conspiracy that is purportedly supported by prominent opposition politicians as well as certain corporate sector organizations.
"The goal of this plot is to form a strong alliance among opposition parties, labor unions, and civil society organizations," said Mr. Alfa Mohammed, the national publicity secretary for the SDP, in Abuja on Friday.
He went on to say that the intention was to sway public opinion against the incumbent administration in an effort to overthrow it in an undemocratic manner.
The mainstream SDP is dedicated to working constructively with Tinubu's administration over the next three years. To clear up any confusion, it is important to note that the mainstream SDP is currently involved in a legal battle against certain factions that have been improperly recognized by INEC.
"This strategy disallows any participation in plans intended to undermine the government or divert its attention," he said.
Mohammed asked Nigerians to be on the lookout for possibly dangerous propaganda and inflammatory remarks emanating from the aforementioned alliance and to exercise discernment in dealing with them.
He said that the strategies were intended to undermine popular trust in the president and the governing elite, endangering the integrity of the nation's arduously earned democracy.
