In advance of the release of Google's Pixel Tablet, Android 14 introduces a new mouse pointer
Android 14 introduces a new mouse pointer |
Just in time for the launch of the company's new large-screen lineup, the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, it is obvious that one of Google's primary objectives with Android 14 has been to improve the tablet experience. In previous iterations, among other quality-of-life enhancements for large-screen devices, we discovered a huge new set of hardware keyboard shortcuts, support for touchpad motions, and a new App Pairs feature for automated split-screen multitasking. For users of external mice with tablets, Android 14 Beta 3 has brought a modest modification.
The mouse pointer in the most recent beta build has undergone several changes, as noticed by Android specialist Mishaal Rahman. It was an extremely angular arrow in Android 13 and earlier versions that resembled the pointer on Windows, macOS, and even Google's own Chrome OS. Now it has rounded corners and a more frivolous paper airplane shape.
Google was able to increase the triangular section of the mouse pointer by a few pixels while reducing the overall footprint by removing the trailing stem. The wider touch targets in a normal Android app's UI fit it a little better, and the rounded corners match some of Google's more recent Material You icons.
True, it's a minor adjustment, but they all add up. Google's impending Android 14 version is shaping up to be a huge one from a UX perspective. Add in other finishing touches like an upgraded Battery Saver, a new charging indication, and the revival of a cherished Android 11 feature, and it's looking good.
