Guy calls the police after his closest friend's wife conceals her name and connives with him in online dating

After learning the truth, a man whose best friend's wife conned him in an online dating scam filed a formal complaint with the police to get back all the money he had spent on her.

According to reports, Mr. Zhou, a middle-aged Chinese man from the province of Henan, has been growing watermelons in Myanmar to collect money for a family.

Odditycentral.com reports that despite his extended absence, he maintained contact with his friend Xiao Li and confided in him last year that his watermelon farming was profitable and that he was now prepared to settle down with a respectable woman.

Afterwards, Xiao Li informed Zhou that he would arrange for a suitable wife for Zhou based on the recommendation of his wife's close friend.

Zhou and the alleged lady in question chose to date online while he was away from China because Zhou was a foreign resident.

They had been corresponding online for around three months. The online lover of Mr. Zhou informed him that her brother had been seriously injured in a construction site accident and that she urgently required 5,000 yuan ($730) for medical costs. Zhou agreed to send her the money because he didn't think it was excessive, but only a few weeks later, she requested money once more, this time stating that her father was ill. Over the course of a year, he sent her more than 80,000 yuan ($11,650), according to odditycentral.com.

Then, earlier this year, Zhou unknowingly revealed to his friend Xiao Li that he was seeing his wife's friend, that their relationship was going well, and that he intended to go back to China to marry her.

Xiao Li, who had at first sounded pleased with Zhou's plans, then called him to inform him that he had likely been duped and that the woman he had been communicating with online was actually his wife.

"Your girlfriend is my wife," I said, "and you seem to have been cheated on." Xiao Li informed Zhou over the phone.

He revealed that his wife had left the house silently after he found out about her misdeeds on her Douyin (TikTok) account.

Then, Xiao Li begged Zhou not to inform the police about the situation. promising to repay him in installments all the money he had been robbed of.

Yet after failing to keep his word, Zhou decided to report the incident to the police because he suspected foul play.

It is still unknown whether Xiao Li participated in or was aware of the entire scam.
