Ford claims to have delivered the electric F-150 Lightning truck to customers in all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. The truck is completely sold out in the US until 2022.

It's a pleasant, if not very significant, achievement and a boost for Ford as it works to increase production and deliveries of its flagship electric vehicle. And it all happened in just two months, according to Ford, which he calls "lightning rapid."

In order to outpace its competitors in the race to distribute electric trucks to the largest possible audience, Ford is relying on its 119 years of production and delivery experience as well as its extensive dealership network. The F-150 has been the best-selling car in the US for the past 40 years. Trucks are among the most popular cars in the nation.

Deliveries of the F-150 Lightning are most prevalent in Texas and California, the states with the highest percentage of electric vehicle sales. However, the automaker claimed that all of the deliveries to the states in the union occurred naturally and without any outside interference, which would have the effect of muting complaints that Ford failed to foresee how well-liked the F-150 Lightning would be.

Ford's initial production estimate for the number of electric F-150s it intends to build has been somewhat fluid. The company initially intended to produce only 40,000 vehicles a year, but eventually informed suppliers that capacity was likely to increase to 80,000 by the beginning of 2023. By mid-2023, that number will have increased to 150,000 trucks, though it's unclear how many will actually reach clients this year.

Ford uses a "wave-by-wave reservation procedure" to let customers know when they may place online Lightning spec orders. Ford stopped accepting bookings for the Lightning earlier this year after receiving 200,000 refundable $100 deposits since the vehicle's launch in May 2020. (As of the time this story was published, reservations were still unavailable.) 160,000 units are to be produced annually at Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.

Finding enough battery components to produce not only 150,000 F-150 Lightnings but also 270,000 Mustang Mach-Es, 150,000 Transit EVs, and 30,000 examples of an unidentified brand-new midsize SUV for the European market is the problem. According to Ford, the company has all the necessary production capability for 600,000 electric vehicles and trucks each year.
