According to an internal Apple memo obtained by MacRumors, the company is aware of the audio problems users have been having with its $1,599 Studio Display, but it doesn't yet have a permanent solution. Instead, the memo, which purportedly went out to Apple's network of approved service providers, advises impacted users to unplug the Studio Display from its power source, unhook any external devices, and then reconnect the display and turn it back on after waiting 10 seconds.

In March, Apple made the Studio Display available. The display's built-in speakers, microphones, and webcam are among the numerous extra gadgets that can be found on a standard desk in addition to the screen itself. However, as of late, people have started reporting troubles on Twitter, MacRumors' own forums, and Apple's support pages. Dropouts in sound quality, distortion, and jerky playback have all been reported.

The good news is that Apple's email says that these issues aren't brought on by faults with the Studio Display's hardware, which suggests that a future software update might fix them. The bad news is that it's unclear whether or when this more long-term repair will be implemented. The Verge contacted Apple for comment, but they did not react right away.

Sadly, this is not the first time Apple's pricey monitor has encountered a software problem. The webcam on the Studio Display looked terrible when we first tested it. In both bright and dim lighting, it was dreadful. After some time, Apple released a software update to try and fix the problems, but while some aspects of the webcam's functionality were enhanced, its quality was still inferior.

While Parker Ortolani claims he has been trying for days to get the speakers on his Studio Display to function, a video posted to Twitter by Simon B. Stvring shows audio played through the Studio Display going out after only a few seconds. Without frequent restarts, Mario Guzmán tweets, the audio from his two Studio Displays will eventually become choppy before ceasing to function altogether. It doesn't seem good for Apple's high-end Mac accessories. The Studio Display may have a lot of functionality, but ultimately, it just means that there are a lot more things that could go wrong with it.
