In comparison to the first three months of the year, Tesla's deliveries of new battery-powered cars and crossovers slowed down in the second quarter as the company worked through startup issues at new plants in Germany and Texas, as well as a prolonged production slowdown in China caused by stringent COVID-related protocols that lasted longer than CEO Elon Musk anticipated.

The Austin-based automaker reported that in the three months that ended June 30, it delivered 254,695 vehicles to customers globally, up 26% from a year earlier but down 18% from a record 310,048 in the first quarter.

Additionally, the number fell short of the 258,000 deliveries that analysts surveyed by Forbes on average projected.

Tesla highlighted "ongoing" problems in its quarterly report. Tesla noted "ongoing supply chain issues and production shutdowns beyond our control" in its quarterly report.
