The robot can handle up to 20 times its own weight and three times its own volume. It can therefore contain medicine, wireless electronic sensors, and even microneedles. Through its microspikes, it can also release small medication particles.

The pigs' lungs, esophagus, stomach, and intestines are coated with a thin layer of chitosan (a substance found in shrimp shells), which provides enough friction and stickiness on the robot's "legs" for them to adhere to the mucus layer in their lungs, esophagus, stomach, and intestines.

The wireless device has a length of 3.7 millimeters and a width of 1.5 millimeters.
