Ford Motor Company has agreed to pay $19.2 million to settle charges that it misrepresented fuel economy and payload capacity for some pickup trucks and hybrid automobiles, though it will not admit wrongdoing.

Ford will pay various sums to the 40 states and the District of Columbia that were involved in a multistate inquiry.

Ford reportedly misled consumers by stating "Best in Class" payload capacity on its 2011-2014 Super Duty pickups after competing cars had surpassed Ford the previous model year, according to the states.

The settlement agreement forbids Ford from making false or misleading claims about new vehicle fuel economy or cargo capacity.
