Dr. Dre lost $200 million after inadvertently discussing the sale of Beats |
This is revealed in "After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul," by Tripp Mickle.
While Apple and Beats were negotiating in 2014, actor Tyrese Gibson posted a video with Dr. Dre in which the rapper referred to himself as "hip-first hop's millionaire."
Despite the fact that the musician did not confirm the Apple and Beats deal, everyone knew it was true.
Apple's CEO was disappointed, but composed. He continued to believe that purchasing Beats was the right move.
Cook was able to reduce the purchase price by $200 million thanks to the video story, which was deducted from Dr. Dre.
