Blogger Luke Miani Opted To Convert His Old iMac Into A Similar Monitor |
Studio Display, according to Miani, provides a 27-inch monitor with 5K resolution for $1,598, which is standard on many iMac models.
He chose a 2014 iMac with a Retina display for his experiment, which cost him $600.
The main drawback to this technique is that Retina iMacs never had a capability that allowed you to use the monoblock as an external monitor.
To convert the monoblock into a monitor, the blogger had to totally disassemble the iMac, remove all of the internal components, and install a suitable conversion board.
The end effect is impressive: the iMac functions as a monitor reliably.
