Madagascar is a small island off the coast of Africa.

Rather than settling on the nearest island, experts believe that the human ancestor sailed to Madagascar not straight from Africa, but via Indochina and Indonesia, then over the Indian Ocean to the islands, a distance of thousands of miles.

We also don't know what the ancestor travelled on-logs or rafts across thousands of miles.
