The first private mission to the International Space Station launched from Florida's Kennedy Space Center at 11:17 a.m. ET on Friday, carrying three tourists in a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule on a flight arranged by Axiom Space.
Michael Lopez-Alegra, a former NASA astronaut, is leading the trip, which includes three customers: Larry Connor, 72, an Ohio real estate billionaire; Mark Pathy, 52, founder and CEO of Montreal-based family office Mavrik Corp; and Eytan Stibbe, 64, an Israeli businessman.
In 28 hours, they should arrive at the space station, which is 250 miles above Earth.
Tourists will take part in scientific studies on aging throughout the 10-day vacation.
