Fines of nearly $160,000 have been imposed on two unruly airline passengers.

Last summer, the Federal Aviation Administration sought the largest-ever fines against two passengers for suspected disorderly behaviour aboard flights, as the government continues to tighten down on plane disruptions.

On an American Airlines flight, the FAA suggested an $81,950 punishment against a passenger for allegedly threatening a flight attendant who attempted to aid her after she fell into the aisle, pushing the flight attendant, and then attempting to open the cabin door.

On a Delta Air Lines trip, another passenger faces a $77,272 penalty after she allegedly tried to flee the plane during the flight and bit another passenger multiple times before the crew was able to detain her.
