President John Dramani Mahama has declared plans to give
some nursing and midwifery institutions degree-granting status in a daring
attempt to improve Ghana's postsecondary education and healthcare systems.
Mahama presented his plan to improve educational facilities in underprivileged
communities on May 31, 2025, while on his thank-you visit in the Ahafo Region.
One important project is the construction of a university in Ahafo that will
provide state-of-the-art courses in natural resources, agriculture, and health
sciences.
Mahama underlined that enhancing Ghana's healthcare delivery
system would ultimately result from modernizing nursing and midwifery schools,
which would equip medical personnel with advanced degrees. He said that turning
these establishments into universities that provide degrees will boost
professional growth and promote healthcare results across the country. In order
to overcome transportation issues that impede academic advancement, he also
reiterated his dedication to assisting academic operations by carrying on with
the delivery of buses to senior high schools and health training facilities.
Mahama's overarching objective of increasing access to
high-quality education and enhancing vital industries like healthcare,
especially in underdeveloped areas, is reflected in this project. The NDC
administration hopes to have a long-lasting effect on Ghana's growth trajectory
by making investments in infrastructure and education.
