YouTube Music is attempting to integrate with the HomePod

Direct streaming and Siri control from the HomePod may soon be available to customers of YouTube Music.

Since iOS 14, Apple has allowed third-party developers to offer native support for their music services on the HomePod, although only a small number of users have taken advantage of the opportunity. Although it is possible with services like Pandora, well-known ones like Spotify do not yet offer it.

If the code found by X user @aaronp613 is any indicator, the number of supported services is about to increase by one. Aaron discovered a Home glyph and URL for "ytm_connect_with_homepod" in the YouTube Music app, which is a minor sign that the service is at least in development.

If YouTube Music implements the feature, customers will be able to instruct their HomePod to play music from their YouTube Music account by using Siri.

Instead of Apple's settings, the feature is activated through the app's. For instance, the user cannot find Pandora's integration with HomePod anywhere else; it must be set up in the app.

Once a service, such as YouTube Music or Pandora, is enabled, it becomes available as a media option in the user's account settings in the Home app. From this page, customers can designate a service as the default, so that when Siri is used, that service will be selected in place of Apple Music.

With the appropriate command, Siri will start playing audio from non-standard sources. The user can tell Siri to play their sleep playlist on YouTube Music if Apple Music is the default by saying, "Siri, play my sleep playlist on Apple Music. If YouTube Music is the default, the phrase "on YouTube Music" is not required.

Users of YouTube Music will have another use for a HomePod or HomePod mini once it is launched. Hopefully, other services like Spotify will take note of this connection and adopt a similar strategy.
