Along with improvements to the person emoji, which now features direction specifications like facing right or facing left, there are four new family emoji combinations.

The direction options can be employed by a person who is standing, sitting, kneeling, walking, running, using a white cane, using a manual wheelchair, or using a motorized wheelchair.

The 15.1 update is smaller in scope than a typical year because Unicode updates frequently include quite a few emoji characters.

To be used in China, Unicode 15.1 does include several new non-emoji characters.

It takes many months for smartphone manufacturers like Apple to creat emoji's artwork and upload it to iOS after the new emoji characters are approved. The updated emojis should appear in a future release of iOS 17.

Since Apple launched iOS 16.4 in February of last year, which included a new emoji, the company might do the same in 2024.

Shakingfaces, pink and light blue hearts, donkeys, moose, goose, wings, jellyfish, hyacinth, pea pods, ginger, flute, maracas, and blackbirds were among the emojis that were added to the system last year.
