Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, better known by her stage name, Nana Agradaa, responded to accusations of fraud and refuted them.
In a video in which she presented an explanation of her actions, she claimed that she had invited churchgoers to a service last Friday and had actually given them money to assist with their various enterprises.
She said that on Friday, October 7, 2022, she would be inviting anyone who was interested in receiving assistance to attend church, become a Christian, and join the congregation.
She mentioned that, as is customary for a church, there was an offertory last Friday.
Therefore, if new members who were attending church for the first time wrote their names, offered money to support the church, and received nothing in return from her, they should count that as new members because their opportune time will undoubtedly come, and they should not attribute that to fraud.
She refuted the claim that the members' voluntary contributions of GHC 1000, GHC 800, GHC 700, and coins to the offertory during the church service constituted fraud.
The founder of the Heaven Way Church in Weija, Accra, Nana Agradaa, was detained by the police on Sunday on suspicion of running a purported money-doubling fraud, according to several of her church members.
That came after social media posts went viral showing both new and seasoned churchgoers swarming the building to demand payment.
The suspect was stated to be helping the police with their inquiries into the incident, according to a statement released by the police on October 9, 2022.
In order to conduct additional investigations, the police have advised those who have fallen victim to the alleged money-doubling fraud to contact the Accra Regional Police Command.
