Soon, a Tom Hanks-narrated quiz game called Hanx101 Trivia will be one of the games available only through the Apple Arcade membership service (via Variety). Despite the name, it's not a game where you'll be asked questions about Tom Hanks' career; instead, it will have "tens of thousands of questions" on things like history, math, geography, and food, according to a press release from the game's developer, Blueline Studios. (I'm hoping at least one of the latter set's questions pertains to a box of chocolate.)

The game will include a team mode, a head-to-head competition mode, and a "Hanx101 mode" in which you ostensibly attempt to achieve a high score while responding to 101 questions. Additionally, there will reportedly be "novel genres such as' Word Jam 'and'I " though the game's promotional materials seem to leave it unclear what they will entail. The game is scheduled to debut on September 2nd, a Friday.

To be completely honest, I find this endeavor very strange. First off, the name; the Apple Arcade listing has a gap between Hanx and 101, but Blueline's own website clearly styles the game as Hanx101 Trivia without it. Furthermore, the game is being promoted as "an opportunity for Tom to share his love and enthusiasm for trivia with his fans, casual gamers, trivia aficionados, and YOU." I was unaware of his obsession with trivia.

No, it's not a negative thing to be eccentric. As I previously stated, I'm definitely going to give this a shot. It's also encouraging to see Apple experimenting with the kinds of projects that will be available in Arcade. Just recently, the service received the Cooking Mama and Frogger titles, as well as a Jetpack Joyride sequel, a Hank Hill-themed kart racing game, and a port of the iconic Goat Simulator.

Hanks has experience producing content for Apple's services; he starred in the Apple TV Plus debuts of the films Greyhound and Finch.
