The manager of Bristol City, Nigel Pearson, has said that Antoine Semenyo may soon be able to play again after acknowledging that the striker feels "alright to play."

Although Semenyo is anticipated to return before the end of the month after earlier being predicted to be sidelined until September, Pearson will not rush the Robins' important striker back.

Semenyo participated in a brief workout at the City's open training on Tuesday at Ashton Gate, but was only permitted to use the exercise bike.

He was then reportedly encircled by admirers as he declared his intention to return, "maybe sooner."

Although the 22-year-old's match against Sunderland on Saturday is probably too soon for him, boss Pearson went into further detail regarding his recovery, assuring the team that they will continue to take a cautious approach to ensure he returns fit and firing.

Pearson believes it would be foolish and unprofessional to simply reintroduce Antoine, even if he feels fine to play. "When you look at someone like Antoine, I think what is sensible with the type of injury he has had... (when I say) his load, I mean the amount of training and stress that he is put under needs to be built up," Pearson said.

"I'd rather have it as an instance where we need to restrain players, but he is making good progress and we are all confident he will be with us sooner rather than later, but I won't provide a date or timeline," the coach said.
