Kofi Bentil, the vice president of IMANI Africa, has
demanded that those responsible for the financial mismanagement of the
contentious National Cathedral project be prosecuted.
Speaking on Saturday, July 19, on JoyNews' Newsfile, Mr.
Bentil emphasized the need for legal action against individuals responsible for
the financial misconduct.
“They spent almost $100 million, and all we have is that
hole. Go ahead, find the people who spent the money, and let them come and
confirm it.”
“Go ahead and prosecute them,” he added.
Mr. Bentil's remarks come after government officials
recently disclosed that the project has already cost about $97 million, with a
large amount of the money going unaccounted for.
Former President Nana Akufo-Addo promoted the National
Cathedral project as a "sacred obligation to God," and it was
introduced with much ceremony as a national site of worship.
Since then, the project has stayed at its foundation level
due to financial mismanagement by the construction managers.
Mr. Bentil said that those responsible for the crime must be
held accountable and that accountability cannot be boiled down to public
debate.
