Wes Scantlin of Puddle of Mudd is allegedly facing drug charges and domestic violence after an alleged argument with his girlfriend

After an alleged domestic altercation with his partner, Wes Scantlin is being charged with felonies.

According to TMZ, the frontman of Puddle of Mudd, whose full name is Wesley Reid Scantlin, was taken into custody early on Tuesday, March 11, after Torrance, California, police received a report of a dispute at his residence. The news was initially reported by the source.

After interviewing with Scantlin, 52, and his girlfriend, whose identity was withheld, authorities concluded that the two had engaged in a verbal argument that turned violent, according to TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources.

The site said that the musician's girlfriend's arms were clearly marked.

According to TMZ, the Puddle of Mudd musician was later taken into custody when police allegedly found a tiny amount of cocaine on him during a search.

According to prison documents seen by PEOPLE, Scantlin was taken into custody shortly after 4:00 a.m. local time and was booked into jail at about 5:12 a.m. After posting bond, he was later freed on Saturday, March 15.

According to TMZ, the musician is currently facing felony charges related to possession of a controlled narcotic and domestic abuse.

According to documents seen by PEOPLE, he has two court dates coming up: March 28 and April 15.

PEOPLE's request for comment was not immediately answered by the Torrance Police Department or a representative for Scantlin.

According to Vice and Stereogum, the musician's most recent arrest follows his troubling performance at a charity concert earlier this month, during which he claimed to have been "roofed" by one of his former colleagues prior to the performance.

The rock star gained notoriety in July when he was stopped for a suspected traffic infraction in Burbank, California, when he had an active warrant for gun possession at an airport.

Scantlin, who was alone in the car when the police questioned him, refused to get out and was pepper-sprayed after the police and a crisis negotiator made many attempts to reason with him.

A SWAT squad showed there around two hours later and urged the singer to get out of the car, which he did. After receiving on-scene medical attention from paramedics, he was taken to a nearby hospital and arrested at the Burbank Jail for resisting arrest and having an outstanding warrant.
