How to Fix the Most Annoying iOS 17 Features on Your iPhone
The most recent iOS 17 software update from Apple is available for download as long as you own a compatible iPhone, such as the iPhone 15. In addition to Standby mode, interactive widgets, full-screen contact displays during phone calls, a better and more individualized autocorrect, and other new features, the new iPhone OS contains a number of enhancements.
The majority of these new features are appreciated, but if you're anything like me, you might not like every iOS 17 innovation. I occasionally resist change, especially when it's extreme, since I grow accustomed to a specific style of carrying out certain tasks.
When I switched to iOS 16, I didn't like the new search button at the bottom of each home screen since I kept accidentally pressing it. I didn't particularly enjoy it, even if it's not strictly a terrible feature.
Additionally, there are a couple things in iOS 17 that I'm not overly fond of. Continue reading to learn about some of the iOS 17 settings that occasionally irritate me. Best of all, each one of them has a "fix" that allows you to either get rid of it or never have to deal with it again.
Stop NameDrop from revealing your contact information automatically
By moving your iPhone close to another iPhone or Apple Watch, you may rapidly exchange contact information via AirDrop thanks to the new NameDrop feature in iOS 17. NameDrop receives your name, contact information, including your phone number, email address, and contact poster (another new feature of iOS 17).
However, some users have complained that NameDrop forces them to provide information they don't want to. NameDrop may attempt to transmit your contact information, for instance, if you place your iPhone near another iPhone in general. NameDrop could attempt to transfer contact information across two iPhones if you carry two in your bag—one for personal usage and the other for work—which might be bothersome if you're not intending to utilize the function specifically.
Fortunately, there is a simple method for totally turning off NameDrop. Go to General > AirDrop in the Settings application and turn Bringing Devices Together off. You won't be able to exchange phone numbers and information via NameDrop once the service is off.
In Standby, hide notifications
One of the most significant new iOS 17 features for the iPhone is the StandBy function, which turns your phone into a smart display when it's charging horizontally and displays information like the time, your calendar, photographs, and alerts in large, easy-to-read chunks. While StandBy is a terrific method to swiftly absorb information by briefly looking at your phone, you might not want StandBy to display alerts if there are other people nearby and you want to keep some of your information private.
Activate the Show Notifications option under Settings > StandBy. You no longer see all of your alerts shown when you're in standby mode. In standby mode, important messages such as weather crises will still be displayed.
As an alternative, you may choose to only hide notification previews. In this method, you can still view the alerts you get, but you can't view their full contents without tapping on them. You must activate Show Notifications and the Show Preview on Top Only option in order for this to function.
Prevent Siri from opening so quickly
In iOS 17, Siri saw a number of significant modifications, including the ability to be called simply by saying "Siri" rather than the previous "hey" command. With only your voice, it's now simpler to launch an application or activate a shortcut, but since the new trigger only requires one phrase, you can unintentionally activate Siri more frequently.
Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Listen for and choose the single "Hey Siri" option if you want to return to having Siri activated only when you say "Hey Siri" and not simply "Siri." Siri will no longer be activated on your iPhone just by saying the word "Siri."
