Expect a cable mess with the iPhone 15 with USB-C, but it might not bother you

I adore USB-C, the data and charging connector that I first used on my 2016 MacBook Pro, and is now found on practically all of my electronic devices.

In 2018, when Apple initially included that technology in the iPad Pro, I yearned for a USB-C iPhone. In 2021, when Apple introduced USB-C to iPads with lower-end specs, I became more optimistic. I don't mind that the European Union is now pressuring Apple toward USB-C, even though I don't think legislation is the best method to guide product development. I love using USB-C to charge anything.

I'm glad that all of the iPhone 15 versions have USB-C ports. But here's the bad news that Apple failed to mention at its Tuesday iPhone announcement event: Millions of individuals who join the USB-C ecosystem will also experience the negative aspects of the technology.

Confusion over what the heck is included with that USB-C connector on the side of a device and the cable you plug into it taints USB-C's usefulness and adaptability. In other words, it's not always evident whether your connection or gadget supports high electrical power for quick charging, and high electrical power for high-speed data transfer, both, or none.

The iPhone 15 will come with a USB-C connector and charging cord that will give buyers a taste of the difficulty, as the rumors had predicted. According to reports, while the cable will transport data at a meager 480 megabits per second—the poky speed introduced with the USB 2.0 standard in 2000—it will be fine for charging.

Apple purposefully avoided discussing the speed of the iPhone 15's USB-C port during the launch event, although the spec sheet indicates that it is merely USB 2.0. The iPhone 15 Pro versions will function at USB 3.0's faster 10 Gbps speed.
