How to train Face ID to identify a mask

Many people spend most of the day wearing face masks during the coronavirus outbreak. Using an iPhone with Face ID while wearing one is pretty inconvenient. You will need to take off your mask or enter an unlock code in order to unlock it because face recognition won't work. It is possible to train the system to distinguish a mask-covered face.

You need the following to instruct Face ID to recognize you while wearing a mask:

1. Select Face ID and a passcode under "Settings."

2. Click "Face ID Setup" when you reset Face ID.

3. Apply the mask to one half of your face after folding it in half. It is recommended not to cover more than half of your nose or lips so that Face ID can recognize your face. (If you see a message that no face is detected, move the mask, freeing most of your nose and mouth.)

4. Repeat the Face ID scan process after moving the mask to the other side of the face.
