For robbery, 20-year-old Kwadwo OPOKU, who is unemployed, was given a 30-year prison term with hard labor
The court's prosecutor, ASP Newlove Adjei, testified before the H/H Fred Obekyere esq.-presiding court that on February 23, 2023, at 12:00 am, a level 100 student of AAMUSTED left home to travel to lectures and, upon arriving at the Sofoline Interchange, encountered Kwadwo Opoku traveling in the opposite direction.
When Kwadwo Opoku noticed the student was by herself, he ordered her to hand over all of her possessions to him.
The student begged Kwadwo to spare her because she was a student and had no money on her, but Kwadwo ignored her request and charged at her, snatching her school bag, which contained a ladies watch, an exercise book, a text book, and a phone charger, all of which were worth GH$700.00. He then turned and fled.
After hearing the student screaming for aid, the neighbors gave Kwadwo OPOKU a close chase, and he was eventually taken into custody.
He was robbed of his school bag, which was afterwards delivered to the Suntreso police.
He entered a not guilty plea in front of the court, but following multiple investigations, he was found guilty and given a 30-year sentence that included hard labor.
