St. Mary's Girls SHS has 15 pregnant pupils right now, making the headmistress cry
Teenage Pregnancy |
There are apparently currently fifteen (15) pregnant female pupils at St. Mary's Girls Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region.
According to United Television (UTV) news, four (4) of the pregnant students are in their final year, ten (10) are in their second year, and one (1) is a first-year student.
According to reports, the school's headmistress, Alice Martha Adjei, confirmed the discovery and bemoaned how it had put her organization in a difficult situation because she was unable to deport the pregnant girls.
The rise in adolescent pregnancies among female students at the institution, which impairs their education, has reportedly alarmed school administrators.
They fear that if action is not taken to address the problem of teenage pregnancies in the school, teenage girls' futures would be in jeopardy. After giving birth, the majority of students are unable to return to school, and even those who are able to do so divide their time between studying and taking care of the newborn.
To avoid grown men taking advantage of female students, getting them pregnant, and ruining their futures, Alice Martha Adjei issued a warning.
In addition, the Ashanti Region led the way in 2022, followed by the Eastern Region, with roughly 21 adolescent abortions.
The alarming development was revealed as a result of information supplied by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The results show that there were 7,618 documented abortions among teenage females in 2022, or nearly 21 abortions every day of the year.
The GHS said that the figure for last year was down 10% from the 8,465 projection for 2021.
A total of 24,108 teenage girl abortions were reported between the years 2020, 2021, and 2022. The average over the three years was 8,036 teenage abortions, or 22 abortions per day and roughly one abortion per hour.
At a total of 1,275, the Ashanti Region, which seems to have garnered notoriety for recording high abortion cases, again had the highest rate of adolescent abortions in 2022.
In 2020 and 2021, the area saw 1,407 and 1,531 teenage abortions, respectively.
The Ahafo Region had the fewest teenage abortions in 2022, with a total of just 171 abortions, the report reveals. It is followed by the Eastern Region, which recorded 1,106 abortion occurrences.
This explains why a model of projections for pregnancies and abortions published in the first quarter of 2022 indicated that Ghana will see about 266,000 abortions in that time.
In order to highlight significant disparities in access to sexual and reproductive health care, the Guttmacher Institute, the World Health Organization, and the UN's Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) recently released the first-ever model-based estimates of unintended pregnancy and abortion rates for 150 countries.
In order to gain a clearer understanding of global access to sexual and reproductive health care in nations of all income levels, the study analyzes rates from 2015 to 2019.
