Adisadel College defeated Opoku Ware and St. Augustine's in the 2022 NSMQ Finals |
The National Science and Math Quiz's grand finale is about to begin. There are now only 3 schools left out of the original over 100. The finals will be intriguing to watch because all three of the institutions competing are past champions. Adisadel College, a one-time champion, will compete in the finals against Presbyterian Boys, Legon, a six-time champion, and Prempeh College, a five-time champion.
The first two semifinals were won, respectively, by Prempeh College and PRESEC, Legon. In the third match, three large schools competed fiercely for the lone spot in the finals.
Adisadel College, St. Augustine's, and Opoku Ware competed in the competition for a chance to go to the finals. The Kumasi school got off to a strong start and managed to take the lead after two rounds. However, things started to unravel after the third round as Adisadel ramped up the pace and surged into the lead by the fourth round. An overwhelming blitz 5 round by the Adisadel Boys overcame Opoku Ware and St. Augustine's to seal their victory.
It will be a huge letdown for those in the Ashanti Region because they anticipated having two schools compete, but this didn't happen. For the time being, Prempeh College in Kumasi and Adisadel College, a wonder school in Cape Coast, will compete against PRESEC and Legon from Accra. Adisadel won the game with 45 points, while Opoku Ware and St. Augustine's scored 33 and 22 respectively.
The other two institutions they will compete with, PRESEC 2020 and Prempeh College 2021, both won trophies in the previous two years, so Adisadel College has a lot to prove going into the finals. Adisadel last took home the honor in 2016. It will be time for PRESEC to exact retribution on Prempeh and an opportunity to show "they are seven a living God." Prempeh will make an effort to add a sixth. Which school appears to be the favorite? Which region of Ghana will the school be located in—Ashanti, Central, or Greater Accra?
