A Man Dies by Suicide at Kasoa Pylon |
A middle-aged man committed suicide by climbing the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) electricity transmission tower that runs through Galilea, close to Kasoa in the Ga South District of Greater Accra. He died as a result.
He was electrocuted after stepping on the transmission wire.
Although the reason for his behavior is unknown, eyewitness accounts say he was protesting the financial troubles.
In a viral video seen by DGN Online, a man was seen fast climbing a high-tension pole while onlookers begged him to come down.
The Ghana Police Service's car was also visible in the footage, giving the appearance that officers were on the scene to convince the man to leave the pole before endangering his life even further.
A bystander was heard in the background of the video providing a running commentary. He claimed that a man had attempted to climb the pole due to the country's hardships, but had failed.
