The great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II are paying tribute to their dear Grandma.
King Charles III's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, Lady Louise Windsor, and James, Viscount Severn, were among the eight grandchildren of the late monarch who gathered on September 17 in Westminster Hall at the Palace of Westminster in London to pay their respects to Her Majesty. The vigil is held a little over a week following the passing of Queen Elizabeth on September 8 at the age of 96.
The new Prince of Wales, William, 40, escorted his relatives inside. He remained at the front of the casket for fifteen minutes, surrounded by Princess Anne's children, Zara, 41, and Peter, 44. Beatrice, 34, and Eugenie, 32, the daughters of Prince Andrew, stood guard at the other end of the casket close to Harry, 38. The children of Prince Edward, Louise (18) and James (14), stood in the center.
In order to view the coffin, which was lying in state on the catafalque and was draped in the Royal Standard, the Imperial State Crown, and the Sovereign's orb and sceptre, members of the public had to walk past them and bow. The public had been waiting in line for many hours.
Harry and William were dressed in their respective uniforms. According to Sky News, Buckingham Palace stated that the latter would wear his for the vigil at the "King's request." Harry, a soldier of the United Kingdom like his brother who served on the front lines during two tours of duty in Afghanistan, lost his military titles after he and wife Meghan Markle left the royal family in 2020 and was not allowed to reclaim them until the queen died.
According to Sky News, William was decked up in the Blues and Royals No. 1 uniform, the Garter Sash, the Garter Star, the Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilee Medals, as well as RAF pilot wings.
