In light of his recent split with Camila Morrone, Leonardo DiCaprio's prior ex-girlfriend, is commenting.
For the first time, Kristen Zang, who dated the Oscar winner from 1995 to 1999, is talking openly about their romance. The former model published her thoughts on their relationship in an essay for People, noting that she felt compelled to respond to the "ageist" headlines and remarks on DiCaprio and Morrone's split. Like my ex-boyfriend, I'm a very private person, Zang wrote. But this past week, I felt driven to disclose a couple of things for the first time. I dated Leo for four years.
She went on, "I spent a lot of time with Leo on numerous sets across the world. He adored my pals, and I adored his. We resembled a large, contented family. Leo was a wonderful, considerate boyfriend. Like all couples, we also experienced some difficult times. In 1997, we briefly split up before getting back together. After that, it was over permanently about 4 months after my 25th birthday (yeah, I know what you're thinking). "
Then, DiCaprio's ex-girlfriend explained why she ended things, claiming she wanted to find herself and felt that she had outgrown the relationship.
Zang stated, "Now, more than 20 years later, when I see in the headlines and online comments that his most recent ex-girlfriend has "aged out" or is "too old for Leo at 25," I just want to say," Puh-lease" (insert dramatic eye roll). I believe we can and should do better. What sort of message is being conveyed to young people by this? "
"We were informed when I was a young model that our careers would end at age 21. Although it wasn't the case in the 1990s, I'm glad to see that things are gradually improving for those working in that sector todayto see that things are gradually improving for those working in that sector today."
