In a surprising way, FC Porto upset FC Rio Ave in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, as Ghanaian attacker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu gave a performance worthy of man of the match.

On Sunday, Rio Ave defeated the Portuguese champions 3-1 thanks to two goals and one assist from Yakubu.

After starting the scoring in the 22nd minute with a beautiful strike, the 23-year-old striker was ready to go.

Yakubu pounced on a pinpoint feed from Fabio Ronaldo into the area to unleash a low effort that found the back of the net to give the home team the lead.

The Ghanaian player, who had just set up Pedro Amaral with a lovely ball in the 33rd minute, was the creator of Rio Ave's second goal.

Two minutes before halftime, Yakubu added another goal by leaping highest to head in a flawless lofted cross from Amaral that left Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa defenseless.

The Spanish forward Toni Martinez scored a consolation goal for Porto in stoppage time to cut the deficit in half.

In the 71st minute, Emmanuel Boateng, a former Black Stars forward, came on to replace Yakubu and make his second Rio Ave debut.

Yakubu has scored three goals in four games thus far in the 2022–23 season in the top division of Portugal.
